A suction canister liner is a disposable version of a suction canister. The canister's purpose is to collect the bile, pus, interstitial fluid, blood et al. from a human body via a tube that has been surgically placed there. Because these fluids are considered infectious medical waste, it's important they do not spill out. Therefore the lids lock into place after assembly in order to minimize the risk of spillage.
